My cag Charlie has in the last few weeks taken to banging his toys round in the middle of the night..This is not his usual behavior at all,he is always very quiet once covered up and everything has settled down for the night.. Nothing has changed at all. I investigated the first time he done it to check all was OK ,it was. I don't check him now in case he catches on to me coming down when he bangs his toys.He is 6-7 years old now and we have never had this problem before. Any advise would be most appreciated. Sheila.

hello u saying that my grey charlie is ringing his bell in the middle of the nite ,not ever nite i thought he is trying to get our attetion ...or maybe when he turns around he his catching it on his tail but it does go on fora few seconds ...but like u say i dont want to go in ..in case he thinks if i ring the bell mommy will come running could it be the change in the dark nites that if his going to bed abit early is not sleeping right through and when he does wake up he thinks maybe it might be morning time ...cause the dark nites charlie wants to go to bed at around 4 so i put him in his cage for a coulpe of hours and get him back out at 6 but the dark nites have really through him out of rountine

To be honest, Ive never had this with mine.I hear mine early morning in the summer months, usually about 3.30 - 4am, but thats when dawn is breaking. This time of the year they are usually quiet. Its 8am now and not a sound.They will start as soon as they hear me go down.Is he sleeping more during the daytime than usual.

charlie is sleeping through the day more to ,me and my husband to reckon he may be knocking his bell with is tail just not 100 % sure and my cockatiel goes to bed about 5 oclock and dont wana come out still morning bless him

my greys are really quiet throught the night, like anns in summer months you can hear them sometimes when dawn breaks, not a peek this morning till i walked in the livng room, they havnt shut up talking since

Could you move the bell over away from where he perches at night. I know my two tend to sleep in the exact same spots each night. Then you will know if he is knocking it or playing with it. Like the others mine are quiet at the moment until around 8 and then only start as I am up and about.

Shiela, Just a thought, watch the precise time he does it. He might be woken by central heating 'clunks' or something like that. I've had this problem before with preset airconditioning units. Mine lives outside his cage (I know thats not a good idea) so any little noises have me dashing out

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the heating on at night, but I will look to see if there is any pattern to Charlie's nocturnal playing.. He is well in every way ,maybe just too well
