I stepped out for a minute and when I came back he was drinking the dregs from a coffee cup. The coffee is weak Nescafe stuff and with the amount left it was more tasting than swigging but I don't want to guess how much is toxic, coffee being in the 'big five'.
Is there anything I should do? He appears fine

thanks Kerry, I'm sure it was just a sip. I won't deny I'm a parrotochondriac. He seems ok after his coffee but he does look like he fancies a fag to go with it. |

Before we found BL and found out what birdies should and shouldn't have, our Charlie had coffee on quite a few occasions. She was fine with it and it never did her any harm. She never had much, just a taste. |

Bet the poor Ammie was fed on a lovely diet of mainly sunflower seeds too...............(cos he loved them of course)..............
Could you really drink 10 pints Kerry, I think I would be on the floor after about 4, time for a nice glass of wine LOL

Ella my U2 is a 'coffee fiend'......actually she is into anything thats inside a cup, tea, coffee,milk, but she does love her tea and coffee.....as were a coffee family , I buy decaffinated coffee, and make it very weak, because its pointless trying to drink it with her about, she will ford rivers, jump ravines etc etc to get to it.....I have tried everything, she is the same if she see's a can of orange or coke, either it has to be put totally out of sight or you end up wrestling her for it. Gotta love them lol |

I saw Ella with the Bottle of Diet coke she LOVES IT LOL
Mine only have Tea and they all love it Jack the Jardine wont stop if i put a cup infront of her she looks like she will burst |

Great SHOCKER!!!.
My first birdie BO (cockatiel) Lived on the worktop in the kitchen and was subjected to all cooking smells and a steam bath whenever my mum was cooking!. He was never moved out even when using teflon frying pans etc (we didn't know that it was harmful to them at the time) We did not do any research before we got BO, I was only 8 Years old at the time!. He was well loved but I must admit his diet was mainly of seed. He would drink form coffee cups and tea cups and eat crisps etc. He used to drink my mum's Sherry out of her glass or even off her lips!. To us there was nothing wrong with this (at the time). He lived to a good age of 17 years!! and died of old age!!. Looking back I would have done things differently, but in saying that he was a happy little lad right up until the end and Never had to see the vet for any illness etc in all those years!. |

I know theres a real point to what Scott'n'Dawns post says. When I was little 'fun' was setting the living room carpet on fire with some matches I had found and playing knock'and'run on the neighbours doors. Suddenly these things aren't fun any more.
My grandfather had a grey that was permanently drunk..it escaped during a brief period of sobriety after 27yrs. (i was very young, it left me with a permanent parrot thing)
Sadly the internet arrived and there are no secrets or suprises and more...and the more ghastly the story the higher the google rank. Oodie drools at night when you give him a little poke (its impossible not to poke him). I googled it...jesus, he was dying of AIDS!!!
Sadly that ship has sailed and (especially as a parrotochonriac) you'll suffer loads of posts from me saying "oh no oodie has just stared at Medusa...the internet says he will turn to stone....is this true?", I'll apologise in advance but i know you will understand! |

I can relate to you sooo much!!!.
The difference with the way things were done between my first feathered friend BO and My Baby Girl (Charlie) are just so BIG!!
If Charlie sneezed I would be on the internet finding out the sympstoms of bird flu etc!. I was soo paranoid where she was concerned.
As with BO, he was like the budgie your nan has had in a little cage in the corner of the room (or near the window!!) for years that no one really takes much notice of!.
As with Charlie, she was the daughter we never had and only the BEST was good enough and she was WORSHIPPED!!! |
