you can certainly say things not straight forward with sparky lol for example it's thought he's been stuck in a tiny cage for along time and shipped around he also is believed to hane spent some time in a garage so at the moment he screams alot if he's in the cage so we let him out most the day but make him stay on top for a while from time to time so what does this little character do ??????!!!!!!!!!!
.
he climbs down into his cage shuts the door and sits there screamings at you so he can get some attention lol
.
he is so very loving but cages seem to be a real problem for him at the moment even to the point that he gets upset during the night even when it's dark and quiet and during the day as we know there are times when our babies have to be in there cages for a little while, he gets himself into such a state especially if we've had to pop out for a bit
.
any tips on how to try and help him out of his insecurities will be gratefully recieved as i put before nothing is known about him likes or dislikes so we are learning from scratch with this fella it's quite upsetting to see him getting so upset and in such a state i know with peoples help and time and lots of love we can make him feel safe again

Have you tried covering the back and sides of the cage, I have found this to work with nervous and upset birds before. Most toos like to snuggle inside jumpers where its warm and dark. So maybe if Sparky can still see you yet have his own dark place as well, it may help to make him feel more secure. |

MOst of my cockatoo cages have thier cage covers on all of the time, I just lift the fronts up on a morning, they all seem to like that.. in fact a lot of the birds congregate in Corals cage during the day... (its the huge one) and I often find the Alex's, Martha the grey and 2 or 3 Toos in there!, they seem to like the covered cages better. Its worth a try Lou.. I guess this is probably why hes been moved around and put int he garage etc, as I guess people couldnt take the noise and didnt know what to do with him. Try and find something he likes to play with.. Bloo likes the insides of Loo rolls and when he starts his cage screaming we give him some loo roll insides, in his cage to play with.. he rips em to shreds then settles down. Sometimes I give him magazines or a phone book to rip up in there as well. Its really just trying to get him to accept that the cage is his safe place and that he can enjoy being in it.

thanks sheila we know it's only the beginning of a long road with this sweetheart certainly gonna try leaving one of the curtains we use to cover him up with on i'm sure we'll find a method that works for him with a little trial and error lol do you think maybe if we looked around for a larger cage i.e. macaw size might help him ??? and or maybe trial him with a playstand ??? sorry for all these questions we just want to get his life a little more balanced so he's as settled inside his cage as he is outside it . oh and thanks to the little ball of cuddly feathers i'm sporting a new ear piercing """OUCH"" he's accurate just about central lol xx louise x |
