hi every one
i am a new member today , i have always loved birds, when was at school decades ago we used to live on top of the cliff in a Suffolk village called KESSINGLAND south of LOWESTOFT were i would rescue seagulls gillimots ducks etc etc which were covered in oil from ships or tangled in fishing nets or line,,so always had a love for birds .helped a tawny owl who broke his leg, so cycled 3 miles to the country vet who pulled a stick out of the hedge and taped to his leg and said i will send the bill to your father?? dad was not pleased when he got the bill for 15/- or 75p which was a lot of money then especially when you are trying to help a wild bird..??? so that a bit about me . the wife has the same out look on animal as me..on a recent trip to kalkan TURKEY we spent most evenings buying cat and dog food for the street cats and dogs, but kalkan is a small town which love cats. a english woman who lives out there has donation boxes in most shops were she uses the money to pay vet bills for the street cats and dogs and a program to sterilize the cats and dogs well hope i have not bored you but just a little history of us .. |

Hello Stephen and welcome to BL. Animal lovers are always welcome here. I guess if you're in Suffolk that Lesley G will be your ACO - she seems to cover most of East Anglia. Have you got any birds of your own? If so, we'd love to see pictures. Have you had any thoughts about whether you'd like to safehouse or foster for BL? Help is always welcome. |

Hello Stephen, welcome to to the forums! It sounds like you will fit right in.....though you may need to explain the "old money" Sheila rescues the odd seagull, I am no where near the sea, but have been known to HR the odd dove or pidge when they get dumped on me. Vicki x |

hi helen
thanks for the warm welcome, yes we have thought about safe housing, and also fostering so we are open to all surgestions and yes we used to have a lesser sulphur cockatoo, which we had for 8 years, harry he was terrific he use to dance, wave, talk ,and cuddle ,but after 5 years he started to self mutilate himself we tryed everything , a collar which we had to put on every time we saw blood. it use to brake our hart to see him like this.we were told about special diets ,no good, a avaian who lives near us told us about prozak we she reconmended as last resort, she got it for us we use to put it io his food .but again no good,in the end she told us on e day he might go to far, and might die ,, she said that he was a hormunual and need a mate, and said he would be better off in an avairy where he could pick his mate,??so we were terribly upset but we had to do what is best for harry so we gave him to a avairy/ breeder this was many years ago now may be there is new treatment.?? |
