Thanks everyone, was that an offer of help to clean them out I heard there?!!
Well Maxwell thought it was the most traumatic event of his life moving into there and is having a sulk, but here they are in the new cage.

Harley and Lucas our Severes have the same cage ready for when we move house, which might not be too long, we think we`ve found somewhere!! Can`t jinx it until we have a second viewing and make an offer though.

Molly

Maxwell

Mollys tongue!!

Oh, and until we find a big enough branch we just used a piece of untreated wood and Tristan shaped it into a perch!! He`s brill isn`t he?!!

They are such gorgeous birds.

When i was at uni my room was smaller than that cage. What sort of reliability do you get on the spring in the door locking mechanism (over a longer time?)

Haha, do you think anyone will notice if I lop a bit off a tree?

The catches last quite well. It`s not exactly spring loaded, it turns and is a tapered spiral locking so the more you turn it the thicker the wedge becomes and it tightens shut.
None of my Macaws can open theirs except Harley, whos has become lose because I open and close it millions of times a day!!
the only thing with the Arkansas`s is that the side doors where the food pots go, have the metal rings to keep them shut, like the top hatch breeder doors on most cages. Having said that, they have an extra piece of metal on the inside to keep the pots in too.

I think you can get around the doors by adding extra locks yourself if the birds manage to reach round to them
