hi chris
welcome to birdline, you have a good variety of animals there ...we love pics if you have time to put some on one day, i love to see what an african clawed frog is lol.
Have you thought of becoming a member?....its £20 a year you get to access more areas on the forums, plus you can then apply to foster one of our delightful little darlings on the re-homing lst......have you looked at re-homing list yet?
We also are always in need of safe houses if its something you would like to do
speak to you again i hope round the forums......and dont forget the pics

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. You'll find everyone here friendly and helpful. It sounds like you have an interesting collections of non-human 'children' there.

BL is always looking for both safehouses and foster homes, but you must be a member for either. Membership is £20 a year - a bargain price. You are then eligible to apply for birds on the rehoming list or to act as a safehouse - subject to the relevant homechecks. The rehoming lists give a certain amount of information on the birds available, including likes & dislikes, such as if they will tolerate cats/dogs, need single sex homes, like/dislike children, etc. As I'm sure you'll understand, rehoming has to be done carefully, so the best needs of the bird are met. All birds are on rehoming for at least 2 weeks, to allow members to apply. The applicants are then contacted and interviewed over the phone. The suitable applicant is then given a homecheck (for a smal adminl charge) and then if they are suited, they are responsible for transporting the bird. Obviously everything takes time, so please don't expect things to happen overnight.

I really don't want to put you off though, experienced bird people are worth their weight in gold.

By-the-way, we love to see pics of people's birdies. Oh, incidentally, did you know you've got a stray B&G in your avatar?

Thanks Helen and Kerry,

I am going to join as a full member and would welcome the home check. I Understand that giving a bird a new home wont happen overnight after all it has to be right for both my flock and it/themselves
Im prepared to foster or be a safe house for them however I do get attached so maybe the former would be best

Safehousing can be really rewarding. It allows you to gain experience of a variety of species (you never know what will come throught the door) and to work with a bird when it is likely at its most vulnerable point (when it has just come in to BL, or when it has needed moving from another home for whatever reason.) Admittedly, when that bird has been evaluated and assessed, it will go on rehoming, but there's nothing to stop you applying (although there are no guarantees.) Safehouses are very special people and BL simply couldn't function without them.

You can set a limit to the number of birds that you could safehouse or may be asked to safehouse birds that, for example, like dogs. If birds are clearly not suited (such as aviary or special needs, then you wouldn't be expected to take them on.

Ultimately, seeing a bird move to a happy foster home after all of your love and attention is a very proud and rewarding experience. Sure you will be emotional, you wouldn't be passionate about birds if you weren't, but it's knowing that they are going to a well matched, happy home that makes it all worthwhile.

If you pass a homecheck then safehousing may happen all the more quickly, depending on need in your area.

Please consider both options - read the threads on the forum and see what you think is best. You could contact your local ACO (Area Co-ordinator), who I think would be Jayne and Lee Cope for Cheshire or Area Manager - Shell Widjaew, and talk it over.

Oh, and don't forget the pics

Hi Chris, a big welcome to you and all your family to BirdLine.

Wonderful photies, love them all.  The kittens are so cute, have you had to bottle feed them?  I've had Angel pussycat from 10 days old, she's now twenty one and a half  Adore Bella, she's stunning (love CAGs).
