Hi All

My name is Norman, from Dumfries & Galloway, 9 miles from Dumfries.  I joined Birdline towards the end of March and this is my first thread.  Woo Hoo.  I am married to Gillian and we have 5 kids, twins 23 have left home, still have a 20 year old, 16 year old and 10 year old at home.  I am a dairyman and Gillian is a housewife.  We initially signed up with the intentions of only being foster carers - to put a tick in the safehouse box scared us haha.  We did however reconsider and have amended our details so are now hoping to become a safehouse - it's really quite exciting.  We have always had pets (we are in our 40's now) and at the moment only have tropical fish in the home, we've had cats, rabbits, cockatiels, guinea pigs, chickens and we also had a yellow labrador whom we sadly lost in January.  Just also want to say, after surfing the forums the last week to get familiar with the set up, we are impressed with the organisation.   We had no idea the charity existed and have to thank Margaret for telling us all about Birdline at a recent family party.  We came home and joined that evening/morning at silly o' clock as we couldn't wait.  A few days later we visited her to meet her birds and changed our minds on the safehousing issue as we by then knew what we were letting ourselves in for.  Everyone is really friendly on here and it's great to know if we ever need help it's easy to obtain.

Now realise after the SH check I forgot to ask what happens next ie are we formally told if we are unsuitable/suitable. Bet us newbies are a bit of a nuisance with our 50,000 questions lol
