Aw I see you have some severe macaws, before I found out that you could adopt a parrot in need from Birdline I was going to buy a severe macaw.I did alot of research on them and they are meant to be very playful parrots. My partner took me to The parrot zoo in Linconshire earlier this year and I got to hold a macaw for the first time....they are sooo amazing(and heavy hehe)While I was there I was like a kid in a sweetshop!!I didnt know where to go first and whom to say hello to first(especially at the amazon cages, they all go hello at the same time).I also realy loved the walk through aviary where they all come and sit on you, will defenitely be going back there again.

Hi Belinda, welcome to Birdline - I live just down the coast from you and have also recently joined Birdline. I have 7 parrots who live in their own conservatory; as its been such a lovely day some of us have been sitting in the garden. Best wishes, Christine.

Hi  all.

Im from South Africa, sunny Durbs, as well, and currently looking to adopt another addition to my flock,Ive been brought up with "greys" and" toos" and moved to UK 14 years ago, miss the weather food and braai's.And my Birds!

Other than that im disabled and spend 24/7 at home,I have 4  cockateils, two 5 year olds and two babies, one latino and one wild type 6 months old, Noodles and Pixie, all silly tame home reared, and just been moved to Cornwall into my adapted property which is huge 100m2 and have 1 bedoom for my birds.

Being 6ft4  in a wheelchair means, to my babies, im a moblie tree stand on wheels and they enjoy spending hours playing and sleeping on my shoulders, while I go about my daily activities.

I think I spend more on my babies than I do on myslf, who cares ,anyone who has been loved by a bird will never get it over it!

Im suffering from withdrawls and missing the companionship of a" too" or "grey" and looking forward to offering a female a mate/friend and home for life.

I have just upgraded my homes lighting to Multispectrum "SAD" lamps, and over the last few weeks all my birds and myself are benefiting from better sleep an vitality, which is great as double glazing blocks those rays we all need for healthly living.

I live 2 miles from "Birds of Paradise" bird farm and its my favourite haunt, pity it closes in winter months, summer's finaly here so I can visit some old friends I met last year.

Yes, we have 2 Severe Macaws. They are both totally different, Harley is very playful but very over bonded to me. He`s a real character.
Lucas is quite the opposite, more bird like. Harley talks lots but Lucas just says 'hello'.
Oh the Parrot Zoo is only about half an hour from me, if ever you fancy coming to meet more Macaws you`re welcome to meet our flock anytime

Hi Kerry

Dont want to bother,so its just a quick question. How long do you normaly wait to hear whether you will be getting a homecheck?

many thanx

P.s not trying to chase anyone up just want to check how long the process takes due to me being new,im willing to wait however long it takes,I know that all of you are volunteers, so I dont mean to sound impatient xx

it all depends
If its to foster it takes longer to go through the process with the bird you have applied for as there can be many applicants, and we have to be double sure where the bird is going, if its to safehouse it is usually a wee bit quicker.....but either way you will be contacted, you wont be left out in the cold....we wont forget about you xxxx

Thanx alot, that put me at ease a bit,one more question if you have a homecheck and then dont get selected to foster that particular bird and then apply for a different one,do you have to do another homecheck again?

if you have applied to foster, you will only recieve a call for a homecheck if you are shortlisted for that bird, but will will let you know the outcome so you can apply again, sometimes two three homes could be suitable. there will be more unhappy outcomes than happy, if it was a case you were not sucessful on that occasion we would tell you to please apply again if a bird came up that you thought suited you and the bird

once you have been homechecked, that is it, we will not need to do a home check again unless you have moved home or you contact us to say there has been a major change in your circumstances

Hi Belinda,

I have the same problem with all my friends, i run a pub with hubby and i am always talking about Jack
( our Maroon Bellied Conure) We have only had him for 3 months and i dont think he has had any human
contact before. Hes still very frightened of anyone, although i can now put my hand in his cage. He will only eat
fruit if its on the floor of his cage. He is starting to come around more and we play a game when i go out the
room he shouts and i call his name. If i call him twice he shouts back twice. im sure with lots of TLC he will be just fine.

But i think the customers are a bit bored of hearing about every little thing he does now lol nice to know other people
are so devoted to their babes.
