Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and this forum! I have been searching high and low for the best way to obtain a parrot to add to our family. I've researched breeders, and looked at getting a baby parrot or a parrot rehome etc. But after finally coming across this site we decided on helping a parrot have a forever home by adopting one that desperately needs the love and attention we want to give!
Has anyone here adopted a bird from this site before? How long should we expect to hear a decision? I'm so excited and hopeful! We've been looking for one for so long!

Hi Krystle and welcome, glad you found us. birds are usually on rehoming about a month I think before rehoming start looking at all the applications to allow tiem for everyone who might be considereing rehoming to have a chance to apply. There is no set timescale for rehoming as it will all depend on how many applications for a specific bird and the rehoming team are all volunteers, and I am sure you appreciate they also have jobs, families, not to mention their own birds and their other duties for birdline to fulfill. Patience is the key. the rehoming team do a very thorough job to get the best home for the birds on the list and this all takes time with the hundreds of phone calls they have to get through. HOpe to see you around the forum. Where are youf rom?

Thanks for such a quick response! I'm confident that if we are meant to get a certain one we will. It's good to know that they are thorough and care so much about the birds! So many people want animals for all the wrong reasons.
We are located in Kenley, Surrey. Yourself? ;o) |

Hi Krystal, and welcome to Birdline, As already mentioned above, it does take time, the rehoming team have to call each applicant individually, and cannot make a decision until everyone has been contacted. Depending on the number of applicants there are for each bird, and whether you happened to be one of first ones to be called, it can seem to be a long time from the initial call to hearing the outcome. Good luck with your application.

Welcome aboard and good luck!! As for rehoming, my flock grew from 1 to 12 through Birdline, once one came over the threshold the flood barriers were released. 1 is mine, 8 are fostered BL birdies and 3 are safehoused. I have everything and anything from canaries through to cockatoos. I'm not fussy, nor do the birdies appear to be LOL as they all seem happy and more importantly healthy!! |

You're mine, all mine!! Hooray! I live in Coulsdon, just down the road from you, and I'm your local ACO. pm me your phone number, and I'll call you, and explain how it all works. You're very welcome to come for a cuppa (now's a good time - I've 23 birds in atm) and have a chat. Are you around this afternoon? Doddie |

Hi Everyone, Wow what a great group! Can't believe so many people responded already! We got an email this morning saying that the parrot we applied for is no longer on the list. Totally gutted! I even dreamed of her last night! Lol. Oh well, what will be will be, back on the hunt today!! |

I was going to say welcome Krystle, and good luck with your application but it looks as if I am too late. I was also going to say, don't be surprised or too disappointed if you don't get the first bird you apply for, or even if you are matched with something you hadn't considered applying for. The rehoming team seem to have a sixth sense for who would suit who! Have you considered safehousing? I am sure that Doddie will twist your arm to help out in any way she needs....! |

Sorry Krystle,
Unfortunately some of the birds who have been on the list for a while are already going under homechecks. We do allow a few weeks for people to apply when they first go on. We update the red writing once a week.
Like I say look at the most recently added birds and you may see one there.
Regards Mel
