Hi everyone

I found the site on the website after talking to a petshop in Liverpool that recommended that we look at taking in a rescue bird.

My kids are all grown up and have flown the nest and we have the time and patience now to look after a pet that needs time and attention. we have had the usual cats, rats, fish, lizards, gerbils, cockatiels etc while the kids were growing up.

I am interested in becoming a safe house. We have no bird facilities currently. What would we need to do to apply to do this and what equipment would we need to buy to have ready for birds to be looked after.

Mandy

Hello and welcome to Birdline Mandy!

Being brand new myself I cant give you all the answers you're looking for, but I know that you can contact your local ACO which will be more than happy to talk to you about safehousing, or just wait a little while and he/she will grab you on the forums for sure Everyone here is really nice and helpful though, so answers will be with you shortly no doubt!

Meanwhile, another warm welcome

*serves coffee, tea and some biscuits* Milk and sugar on the side there, help yerself, sit down and make yourself comfy!

Hi Mandy

welcome to the forums.

To safehouse you will need to contact your area manager or ACO, see the list.

You will need to email Dawn Grantham or Mandy Dale.

To safehouse you just need you and a safe friendly place for the birds to spend their time, and knowledge of the welfare of looking after birds.

Some of the birds do come with cages, some safehouses purchase cheep safe cages for the safehouse birds who do not have cages.

Please contact your area manager and they will be able to help.

Mel

Hi and welcome.  I didnt have any experience either before becoming a safehouse.  You will get all the support you need from your ACO as well as support from everyone on the forums.  Good luck and look forward to seeing you around the forums. PS I just love the name of your village!

thanks for that mel x

hi mandy all you need is the love for birds,
room to have a cage, and a big heart,
your already on the forums looking for advice so thats a start,
you'll need to become a full member, £20 per year subscription, i'm no expert so i'm sure when you've called the help line above, they will put you on the right path
or PM'ed ann she can tell you a whole lot more than what i can,

oh it also helps to be a little mad lol

Kazzikammi Hi.  Ann C will be jumping for joy at the prospect of another safehouse within her area.  Hope you are near enough to make it to the show this Saturday.  There will be lots of show birds to get up close to as well as the opportunity of meeting quite a few forum members.  Hope to see you there - if not there is another show date on Bank Holiday Monday at end of May somewhere in/near Carlisle cant remember where but it will be under Birdline Events on the forum.

Hi Kerry, thanks for asking, lol...The house move is seriously stressful. Ive got a fortnight, but the good news is, ive notified my new landlord that i will ave birds staying, as am thinking of becoming a fosterhome for birds, and his answer "ive always wanted a parrot, but the wife said no" and he's cool with the idea. Where is the show on saturday? i cant drive so would need to take train to carlisle, then a bus, and id need to bring lil one wiv me.
Just wish i was movin this weekend, grrr....
