Hi all.
I have been creating fruit and veg cakes for birds and wondered if there would be a call for this service. I am a qualified chef and run a catering business so they have been made to high standards. Nothing less for any of my animals.
I am thinking of selling a mixed variety and also putting willow in the box as well.
Would you be interested ?

Right will do.
This way you will get a selection instead of only one flavour. They can be frozen as well, so will last longer.
I am trying them on my lovebird at the moment and he loves them, even my puppy has got up and nicked a couple.
Will get with prices later in the week.
Thanks for your reply |

Question for you all Would you rather have smaller ones say 25-50gm each so that you can get them out fresh. I have made some this size and I am not sure whether to go towards the 25g or the 50g. (50g just about fills a paper baking case) I am also working on icing them with a fruit or veg flavoured peanut butter topping, but this will make them messy so perhaps without the topping? I use strong coloured colours in sugarcraft (cake decorating) which I presume are totally safe for them as it is for humans? as I thought that I could colour code them also, what do you think? |

I'd be interested - I have 2 CAGs, so they'd either have a 25g ea or share a 50g. Colouring should be OK but I suspect some folk would prefer more 'natural' products. Our 2 would love peanut butter topping, but I wouldn't want a postage pile of goo arrive. Just another thought, have you tried with palm oil vs other oil/fat? Our 2 are both palm oil lovers (I guess it's a Grey thing.) |

I have been using corn oil instead of any other fat. Will see what price I can get the palm oil for. Natural is fine by me, just thought that people would want someway of seeing what each one was, as they do tend to look the same a lot. Many thanks |

Just for info, I get Palm oil for around 97p a tub in Asda (around £5 or £6 from the parrot suppliers.) Not essential though, just a suggestion |

Brilliant thanks. I went in there for some more cornmeal yesterday. I couldn't find any and when I asked about it no one knew what it was? Will go back to sainsburys I think. Any other suggestions? |

I also tried another recipe which didn't do what I wanted, but I have put some in for you to see what you think. I need to rethink how I do it. I love making things up so I hope to expand this to a lot of selection. Hope you like them and I would love feedback, good and bad please. thanks

Our Asda has a very good 'ethnic' food section and sells palm oil in 500ml tubs alongside polish, kosher and caribbean food. Apparently it is used as cooking oil in Africa. It is made by KTC (who also produce tinned pulses and vegetables.) |
