I have made a bit more progress, i have to buy the stuff a bit at a time to spread the cost you see. Anyway after a trip to our local woodyard i have started on part two which is the shed thats attached to the cage, i have included a full length window that came out of the old shower enclosure. The cage section is inhabited by a young Carrion crow on a short term lease, he's been getting into alsorts of trouble at work as he can't fly and is becoming a liability to himself as dogs and youths keep chasing him. I have a prospective home for him with a man who has kept magpies and crows before.
I'll put some pictures up soon.

looking at the end

The door will be to the left of this panel on the end, the old shower window is to the right

This is how the window is mounted

The door into the cage opens inwards, above the door to the left against the wall will be the indoor section

The base is 1/2 plywood mounted on paving blocks, to keep damp down i have used damp proof membrane between the ground and any wood in contact with it. A good investment a while back was an electric nail gun that fires 2" brads, it saves time and you get far less splits in the wood than if you used nails and a hammer.

Steve - impressive

Just one question, isn't there a danger that birds on the inside (or outside) might fly into the glass? I wouldn't want any of your flock hurting themselves.

My plan is to build the indoor bird enclosure bit to the left against the wall, they hopefully wont get into the right hand section. There wont be any glass between the outdoor cage and the indoor section. It's coming together nicely now though. Once it's done i can put the lighting and heating in, and maybe a kettle

Like the old British Rail advert from the 1980's,,, were getting there.

The boys had a day inside today

Next job is to make the indoor accommodation block and put some heating in to keep there tootsies warm at night.

Wow, that's amazing, love it.  Your budgies are absolutely gorgeous.  You can almost see them smiling
