Just spotted this one it's the second large theft of aviary budgies in our area in two weeks this is a link to the newspaper report regarding this. This theft was 40 budgies the one two weeks before (and not too far from the other theft) was 40 budgies.

Either there are going to be reports of large flocks of budgies flying all over the place or somebody must be stealing to order. Somebody is taking in large amounts of birds to move them on (such as a pet shop) but doesn't anybody think WOW that's a lot of birds suddenly being off loaded on to them? Makes you wonder if they are stealing to sell on at auction in another area :o( poor little mites must be terrified.

Some guy on telly the other night was trapping finches in his garden, he had dozens of cage traps set primes with a pair of finches in tiny cages on top to lure the wild ones in. He was arrested but at least 50% of all the birds he caught died of shock. There must be a ready market for these types of bird for so many to be going all at once. Poor things.

I wish somebody would sort themselves out in the government how come it's legal to sell traps for wild birds but illegal to catch them surely it would make sense to say your selling a bird trap that's encouraging illegal behaviour it's banned too....would make sense...or am I being blonde again??? See loads of bird traps for sale on Ebay etc and personally think its very very wrong :o( I did 13 years as an animal welfare officer (years ago) I used to take in injured wildlife as well but it was for release back into the wild when they were healthy / fit again.
