Ruby our CAG is now going through the terrible 2s, I fill the water bowl and when I'm not looking the water bowl is tipped on it's side, then thrown across the cage. Ruby even laughs when I'm mopping up, when I tell her not to do it again she blows a raspberry. So Keith and I were brainstorming how to stop her, came up with a hole just under the holder and padlock the bowl in. Ruby can rattle it but not spill any water, at the moment

Having a good friend who works in the locksmith trade, I feel i must warn you that alot of padlocks are made using Zinc..

As im sure your aware, Zinc is highly toxic to birds.

Brass (which is what that padlock looks like) is a alloy of copper and zinc, so that is toxic too.

I would take that off and find an alternative, if your grey chews it, it could prove fatal.

Diane, its difficult to explain but I've got these coop cups that have two sticky out bits which you have to line up then drop in place and then twist which result in them being unable to lift out.

I've also got in my new montana cage the bowls with the bars ever so slightly over them and both work a treat.

I can't help but love Ruby's attitude tho!! I shouldn't I know but she sounds like a darling!!

Vicky the bowls have got a bit sticking out of them which fit into the holder then you turn it round, Ruby has sussed it out that if you turn it lift it on an angle slightly it comes out. If the bowl is just lifted up it won't come out. Callum the padlock used is one that Ruby had on her old cage that she could get at but not undo (yet) and it's stainless steel thanks for the tip anyway.

Sorry, it just looks like it has a brass body or is brass plated.. the clasp might well be Stainless steel though..

Just thought i'd say as a little knowledge never hurt anyone

the little tinker, I do sympathise as this happens alot, mind you Petee Goffin , who eats his food from his bowl , even though its almost welded down now, just puts his little claw in it and throws the food out whilst looking at you as if to say.......so you think your cleaver do you, well look at me Ella if she feels she is being ignored just picks up the bowl, anyones bowl, water or food and just launches it, and if I am hoovering the little devils just find something to chuck on the floor normally as I have just finished Gotta luv em !!

Phew I am lucky then! Neither Angel nor Boboe throw their bowls - Bo will throw her nuts or toast at you if she is on her stand though. Lizzy just makes a mess without touching her bowl lol. She sticks her head right in the food and headbutts it all over the floor!!!

Chicken (CAG) does not throw her bowl out but she does throw her food out of the bowl, and whilst she is doing this she says "no no no Chicken" but carries on anyway. She does try to lift her water bowl out but has not managed to do so yet.
